Robber Baron V. Captain of Industry?
I feel there were a great deal of both robber barons and captains of industry. Both helped America begin its boom in economy. Although robber barons were basically thieves, they played a large role in Americas industry. For instance, Russell Sage, from anefstead, paid his workers a very minimal wage, but after his fist wife passed away from stomach cancer he began donating funds to cancer societies. He also donated money after taking control of the New York City stocks with Gould but lost and never dealt with stocks again. So even though he was considered a robber baron he did help the society financially.

Other robber barons that helped America were:
-J. P. Morgan, cjewell
-James Fisk, cowens
-James Buchanan Duke, kdennis


Captains of industry assisted the industry in just as a great way as the robber barons but without the stealing. One in particular man that aided America was Andrew Mellon, from lnordland, he created plans to help the people save money involving different taxes. He also practiced fundraising with the Red Cross and the national war council of the YMCA. In addition he donated money to the national art gallery. With all these donations of time and money captains of industry pushed America financially.

I think that most of them were bad cause most of them were robber baron and those guys tried to take things like money and property and were somewhat cruel and merciless. The guys that were captain of industries and they actually helped people a little bit.

I think that there were a lot of both sides to these people. There was some good, like for example, in Bwheaton; Andrew Carnegie donated a lot of money. But in cowens, James Fisk stole to make his profits.

He ended up going to an English high school of Boston a school specializing in mathematics. Later he got sick with rheumatic fever that left him in so much pain he could not walk.
He started out as a banker. Then he became a agent for his fathers firm in New York City. He was a member of the firm Dabney, Morgan & Company he bought rifles for the army to get to power he went through several financial battles then he became involved in financing railroads.

Russell Sage started a wholesale grocery store chain. That profited enough money to start a Hudson River shipping trade. In 1841 he was elected as an alderman, and was also the Treasurer of Rennselaer County. He successfully worked two full terms, and finished in 1841. On December-fifth-1853 he was elected into Congress as a Whig. Sage served until March- 3rd – 1858. In 1863; became president and director of several railroad companies and financial institutions.
