Andrew Mellon

Andrew Mellon grew up in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. He was born on March 24, 1855. Andrew grew up with a brother named Richard Mellon. As for his education Andrew went to Western University of Pennsylvania which is now known as University of Pittsburgh. After he was done with his schooling he joined up with his father’s bank firm which became known as Mellon and Sons. And two years later had the ownership of the bank was turned over to him.
Andrew was then married to Nora McMullen. They lived in Pittsburgh. Also he and his wife had two children, Ailsa Mellon born 1901, and also Paul Mellon born 1907. Andrews’s marriage ended in a divorce with lasting impacts on the whole family.
As a banker he came up with The Mellon Plane. The Mellon Plan was a reduction in income taxes and it also got the estate tax lowered. Andrew also participated in fundraisers for American Red Cross and National War council of the YMCA. He also donated 10 million dollars to National Gallery of Art. He also had dealings with oil steel, ship building and construction. Anderw Mellon died August 27, 1937
Andrew Mellon to me is considered a Captain of Industry.
