Andrew Carnegie was brought into this world on November twenty-first, nineteen nineteen. He was born in Punfermiline fife Scotland in the United Kingdom. His fathers name being William T. Carnegie, and mothers name being margarat Carnegie. He grew up being impoverished and most of his family was self educated. In 1848 after the Carnegies sold most of their belongings to go to America , they boarded a small sailing ship called the Wiscasset, and sailed fifty two days to New York, and three weeks to finally arrive at their final destination in Allegheny, Pennsylvania. Andrew then worked at a cotton factory bringing home twenty dollars a week. Andrew went through a lot of hard times in his life in his later days Andrew states- "I began to learn what poverty meant, it was burnt into my heart then my father had to beg for work. And then there came the resolve that I would cure that when I got to be a man."
Andrew Carnegie started out just being a cotton boy he then went to a telegrapher, to railroads, oil derricks, sleeping cars, and last was bridges. He worked his way up until he eventually controlled the most extensive integrated iron and steel operations ever owned by one person in the united states. His two big innovations were that he made rails for the railroads and the second one was that he had an integration of all supplies of raw through vertical integration. Later on in his life around the year ninety eighty he became the largest manufacturer of pig iron (type of very brittle iron by itself), steel rails and coke (type of fuel). Then another big step in his life he bought out homestead steelworks in eighteen eighty one. In the next year he launched his own steel work names after himself; Carnegie steel company. From there on he was known as one of the most remembered people of the industrial age. Something you may not know is that he was one of the sixty people in the south fork fishing and hunting club. This was later blamed for the Johnstown flood in 1889 killing more than 2200 people.

Robber Baron Vs. Captain of Industry

He was known to donate a lot of money to charity and such. In fact by the time he died he had given away $350,695,653. The rest of his money which was 30,000,000 was also said to be given away to charities and pensioners. One of the largest giving’s was his knowledge about steel and bringing it to the surface of the world. Just thinking were we would be without him is scary to me. He was completely dedicated to his work and family. Taking part in that big of an industry and eventually owning it must have been very stressful at times. He had made it through his life and had a family to call his own. I don’t know anyone today that could be such an important person from their difficult childhood to the booming adulthood, without taking as little as he did from his family friends and environment.
